The Salvation Army

A modern community-based Christian church, The Salvation Army is one of, if not, the largest and most diverse welfare provider in the world.

The Salvation Army’s work has an important role in the Australian community. Seven days a week, 365 days a year, the Salvos, as they are affectionately known reach out to people in need.

The Salvation Army is faith in action, Christianity with its sleeves rolled up, for people in need, providing dignity for the elderly, accommodation for the homeless, relief for troubled families, jobs for the unemployed, counselling and support for those suffering drug or alcohol addiction and courts and prison Chaplaincy.

The Salvation Army helps rebuild lives following the devastation of bushfires, floods and other disasters.

Through its Emergency Services, relief teams are quickly on the scene providing meals, drinks, comfort and counselling for both disaster victims and emergency service workers.

The Salvation Army provides a range of support including crisis accommodation, counselling services, and life skills education for women and children who are victims of domestic violence.

The Salvation Army Family Support Services network offers emergency relief such as food parcels or vouchers, essential furniture and financial counselling to individuals and families experiencing financial distress.
