Plan International Australia
Food. Education. Opportunity. A future.
At Plan International, children are at the heart of everything we do.
Founded in 1937 by journalist John Langdon-Davies and refugee worker Eric Muggeridge, the organisation originally provided food, accommodation and education to refugee children impacted by the Spanish Civil War.
Langdon-Davies conceived the idea of a personal relationship between a child and a sponsor – a model that puts a child at the centre of solutions.
Today, Plan International is active in 71 countries. Our work focuses on children who are living in poverty, excluded and marginalised children, and children affected by conflict and disasters, to ensure access to food, clean water, education, health, protection and safe areas to play.
In 2016, through a comprehensive range of on-ground programs, Plan International:
- Sponsored 1.2 million vulnerable children
- Trained 22.8 million people
- Reached 32.6 million girls and boys
We actively include children – we believe they should be a part of the decision-making processes that concern them. When developing projects, community members are involved from the start, ensuring we understand – and address – any challenges so that the community develops the skills needed to create positive, long-term change.
A charitable gift through a Will, no matter the size, is a powerful way of putting your values into action. Such gifts have the power to enhance the lives of vulnerable children and empower communities by:
- Providing access to clean water and toilets
- Teaching children about hygiene
- Providing access to nutritious food
- Ensuring access to education
- Providing quality health and learning
- Ensuring that girls and women are treated equally
- Providing skills and employment training for youth
- Safeguarding children in disaster and conflict relief scenarios
